]]>Fall is the time of year that your home should feel warm & cozy so we are sharing all of our favorite trends to bring that warmth into your house this season!
The benefits of a loft
To get styling your loft let's understand what are the key strengths one can play on in terms of design. They tend to have high ceilings, which can make a space feel larger and more open. They also often have large windows, which let in plenty of natural light. In addition, loft apartments tend to be located in desirable areas, such as downtown districts with easy access to shops, restaurants, and nightlife. For many looking for a unique and stylish place to call home, a loft is the perfect option.
But finding the right loft design ideas can be tricky. That's why we've put together this list of some of our favorite loft design ideas. So whether you're just starting to plan your loft or you're looking for new ideas, we hope you'll find something here that inspires you!
Break it Up!
When it comes to decorating a loft, there are endless possibilities. First one needs to plan a layout which works for your lifestyle. Divide and conquer is the way to layout a loft. This is the time to innovate. Create a space for your office or study area, innovate on it with some of our office styling tips.
One can also use the extra space for storage, such as by installing built-in shelves or cabinets. Create a cozy reading nook or an intimate conversation area. For those who entertain frequently, a loft can have a chic cocktail lounge or a stylish dance floor. If you have a totallyb open loft but want a bedroom which is semi private get some flowing curtains or a neat separator. No matter what your needs are a loft is so much more creative in having a space for all your needs. And the style and look that comes together after that is what makes a loft unique!
Decide your style
Now think about the architectural style of your space and how you would like it to feel. Its all about you and the home. While many say go contemporary with lofts there might be cases where the warmth of a style is preferred by you or you want to go eclectic. Have fun with what you want to do because it is indeed all about that. When we stage homes, especially in downtown lofts we go creative with a style which highlights many features, exposed pipes, bricks and the amazing layout, sometimes even the flooring.
Here are some lofts we staged, for a mix of lucky owners or for staging them at their best.
In this very eclectic charming loft the very bright colors were matched with equally vibrant accessories, books and a lot of interesting piece to make them shine.
A feel of warmth, charm and feeling special was created with special contemporary pieces that complemented the charm of this space.
When we say divide and conquer one of the parts of this seamless and endless space was this living room. Oriented towards the streets of downtown it made its owners feel a part of the fast moving energy downtown yet enjoy their quite and space. Armed with many interesting pieces it was easy to make this a space to hang out and entertain.
The exposed cement wall which can be majestic and neat but sometimes cold can be made interesting by bringing in artwork that goes with the decor and look you are planning.
Defining a study or an office area is such a cool feature one can easily create in most lofts.
Add a lounge area for added reading or comfort. Make it fun.
This elegant chandelier inspired the contemporary elegance of the bedroom in this loft. Rather than putting a piece of art in the center we played around to offset a metal piece on the side for interest and uniqueness. Mixing art pieces - canvas, frames and metallics is a great way to bring interest and depth to a space especially as one splits it into different areas.
The good thing is that one can play around with layouts, in this loft placing the dining to get a view of downtown and the sky was a fitting idea for the owner.
As one sprawled from a living to the dining in this smaller loft space we created a semi transparent barrier to keep the bedroom a little separate. A cozy home office was also tucked in a corner near the bedroom area.
]]>It goes without saying that shelves in homes have made a strong impact on design. Gone are the days when a book shelf had to be boring and mundane, stocked with paperbacks. Today many of the books are on the kindle and shelves have opened up into a world of adventure. Then there are some of us who still love a book in hand and want to honor the humble shelf with books and a whole lot more. This article is not about creating an ordinary shelf, this is about creating a truely well designed magical shelf which is a masterpiece onto itself and makes its viewers go, “wow, did you do that all by yourself!”;)
Here are the highlights of what to keep in mind when creating your awe inspiring #shelfie:
Yes, you may have to use your shelf functionally by arranging your books but there are many fun ways to arrange books. For one you can arrange them by color the VIBGYOR way. You could also choose to layer some vertically and some horizontally. If your books are more about style and being read less, think about covering a few in brown paper or a black cover. Then intersperse them in layers.
Oftentimes a shelf can be made interesting by blending multiple textures and layers. By bringing in a mix of material in home decor such as glass, wood, metal, one can create a shelf experience which is above and beyond!
< SHOPPABLE IMAGE OF SHELF AT STUDIO>
The truth is greens may take an extra effort to add on but when you are designing an above and beyond shelf so to speak, they have a vital role to play. One can either include a few succulents if you want low maintenance or if you truly believe you kill all plants (like me) then go for interesting faux plants in planters to bring some green in on your shelf.
Themes are mini topics for your shelf. Think about it like making this shelf your very own personal space which speaks to you. For instance, A part of the shelf could be about your travels, a part about your pet and another about a passion. Or all of it could be about your travels interspersed with books and greens!
The idea of a magical shelf is about mixing up items of a larger size and smaller size. If one has all items of the same size it does not make the ordinary shelf extraordinary so to speak. So go a little adventurous and group items of different size. Invest time in finding the right pieces so that everyone goes wow when they see that shelf of yours! Measure the layers of your shelf and put together a few items which are both big and small.

Most folks restrict their imagination to the shelf itself but broaden your perspective to the immediate area around your shelf and you may see so much more. For starters a pretty shelf should be surrounded by a clean surrounding. Following that re-look at warming up or creating intrigue in the area around it. Based on your shelf you can add a set of planters, a basket, a floor sculpture or another piece to enhance the shelf itself. In this area we interspersed the shelf with planters to create more momentum in design.
It goes without saying the core goal is presumably to get you to work. So make sure there is space to prop your computer or laptop and at the least its not a mess. No way are messy spaces inspiring (except for the rare few). Making your work space as functional as possible is key. Tie hanging wires, prop the laptop at the right distance and have space organized for the small stuff.
Think about putting up an organizer or an inspo board if your work involves a bunch of things to post it. Anybody has some form of inspiration whether it be an article, a design flow or more. Pin in essential contacts, helplines and more!
Have a wall in front of you, wallpaper it! Stick and peel wallpaper can be a quick project to give your space the needed love. Or think about a cool photo frames collage with your loved ones, friends, pet or family. Mixtiles is another friendly way to bunch interesting tiles within your desk space surroundings. Take a strong look at the wall or your immediate space near your office and revamp it.
It goes without saying that if you want to upgrade your office desk or even the chair its a cool update to a boring space. While it seems obvious, Investing in a cool new desk or chair is an easy fix.
You really don't want your office space to look like every other friend office space. Making it unique could be putting a decorative accessory, a cool pen holder or a memory of a trip. Make it unique and make it your own.
Sometimes a piece of art is what one needs to brighten up your office space.
Think about what makes you feel good and all motivated or brings relief and peace, that will help you shortlist the apt artwork for you.
From Boho to farmhouse, mid-century modern, transitional, contemporary, coastal and more. What elements bring a style together?
]]>When it comes to designing one’s home one wants to create a space that brings them comfort in their own skin. The design styles that we chose are often a reflection of what makes the space comes alive and still give a home the solace we need.
Good design is a good balance of complementing and honoring your home’s architecture for today with the right design.
MID CENTURY MODERN
Mid Century Modern combines straight lines with vibrant color palette and tones of rich wood. The mid century design movement took hold after World War II. The cleanliness and minimalism of the look is a core component. Architecturally homes with glass, lot of wood, sharp lines were the heart of this style.
Charles and Ray Eames were one of the icons in setting the foundation of the design style in the 20th century as they brought to the world iconic furniture pieces such as the Eames chair. As quoted in their biography, “they had an undeniable intuition for the rightness of particular forms, colors, and finishing details.”

Hairpin legs which were once common with mostly wooden mid century furniture have evolved to combine texture to bring mid century modern pieces to today’s homes. This chair combines a comfortable upholstered seat with the angled legs - purely mid century modern.
The legs and their streamlined looks in terms of tilt, angle, hairpin were a core of many mid century pieces.
Some of our favorite pieces include these curated faces, simplistic yet making a statement

MODERN FARMHOUSE
Joanna Gaines made the farmhouse look popular and many a humble homes have adapted the look with fervor. The chippy, distressed farm paint look, the oaky wood and certain whimsical accents bring the modern farmhouse look together.
The style evolved over time and many feel that it is now gone and no longer on-trend but the truth is that its evolving as many a folks blend it with industrial elements, farmhouse chic, cottage or just make it very contemporary and simplistic. The truth is that the elements of this style are incorporated all over especially in kitchens, floors and more.

CALIFORNIA COASTAL
We really can't not talk about the California coastal living style. While coastal design has been intrinsic to many areas and evolved with different hues and palettes, the California coastal style everybody talks about is an adaptation of coastal elements blended with lots of white linen, warmth and lived in comfort. The palette has moved to soft coastal rather than cheesy coastal if you know what we mean. Lots of beige, whites, subtle mints, light blue hues, jute and more make this style come alive.

INDUSTRIAL DESIGN
As the name suggests industrial architecture exudes the metal tones and the architecture includes lofty ceilings, exposed pipes, bare brick walls, pipes, and recycled materials.
The decor is intrinsically modern and complements the architecture with metallic accents, modern furniture with subtle metal elements. Depending on the space one can easily blend in blacks, greys or rust, yellows for a pop of color.
BOHO DESIGN
A recent phenomenon Boho, bohemian or boho chic design has been buzzing. One doesnt know if it is a trend or will last long but it is definitely exuberant and charming in its entiry. Free spirited design with lots on beige, ivory supplemented with pops of color in magenta, orange and more. It does have a lot of texture in the decor on pillows, frayed elements and is the design which made “macrame” famous. Lots of green indoor plants are also intrinsic to this design.
One can have fun with a space by going mismatched with furniture pieces, bringing in warmth, poufs and creating a space to perfectly relax.

TRANSITIONAL DESIGN
Majestic transitional homes have an old world charm often with large hallways, dramatic fireplaces, ceiling, nooks and architecture that is meant to wow. Classic elements combined with a blend of subtle contemporary makes transitional comes alive. Classics such as the chesterfields sofa, curved lines rather than straight elements are a stable. Elegance is a key goal to accomplish when going transitional. Since it blends the traditional with the contemporary its not the easiest style to balance but it brings comfort and a zone of ease to many homes.
